Many women celebrate their period just once: the first time they get it. After that, your period often becomes just a thing you have to deal with, or worse, something you dread each and every month. At Guud Woman, we think your period is cause for celebration, not just the first time, but every time.
So, because it’s the season of celebration, we wanted to talk about why your period deserves to be in the spotlight and why ovulation is something to appreciate too.
Benefits of Having a Period Every Month
We want to start off by telling you about the benefits of having your period. We know you can probably come up with lots of reasons why your period isn’t all that great, but we want to tell you some reasons to appreciate it.
Indicator of Health
Your period is a great indicator of your overall health. In fact, it's sometimes referred to as the "6th vital sign" of health because changes in your menstrual cycle can signal health issues that require attention. Regular and predictable periods typically demonstrate hormonal balance and overall health. Irregularities in your cycle may raise red flags - they are your body’s way of telling you to pay attention. If you have questions, you can ask us but if you’re concerned, you should see a doctor. If everything is functioning normally and regularly, every period you experience should be a reassuring sign that your body is in sync and functioning as it should.
Fertility Awareness
Your period is like your personal family planning tool. Understanding your menstrual cycle isn't just about tracking when your period arrives; it’s a powerful tool that can help you get pregnant (or avoid pregnancy!)
By tracking your cycle, you can pinpoint your most fertile days, making it easier to conceive when you're ready. On the flip side, it can also help you prevent unintended pregnancies by knowing when it's safer to engage in sexual activity.
Natural Detox
Believe it or not, your period plays a role in detoxification. Menstruation is your body's way of naturally cleansing itself. During your cycle, your body sheds the uterine lining, along with any accumulated toxins or waste products. It’s basically a monthly refresh button that keeps your reproductive system in top form.
Letting Go of Stress and Tension
Many women find that their period brings an emotional release, providing relief from built-up stress and tension. Hormonal fluctuations throughout the menstrual cycle can affect mood and emotions. For some women, their period can feel like a cathartic release - a way of letting go of not just physical but emotional baggage as well. It's a reminder that your body has a way of healing and renewing itself, which can be an incredibly empowering experience.
Benefits of Ovulation
Your period probably gets the spotlight because it's something visible, but ovulation is also something to celebrate too. Here’s why.
Your Prime Baby-Making Time
Ovulation is the golden window when your fertility is at its peak. So, if you’re trying for a baby, this is a part of your cycle that you need to really understand. When you ovulate, your ovaries release an egg, ready and waiting for a rendezvous with sperm. Whether or not you're planning to expand your family, recognizing this incredible aspect of your body's natural cycle is empowering. So, during ovulation, celebrate the possibility of creating life, even if it's just with an intimate night in!
Energy Surge
Ovulation isn't just about fertility; it's also a time in your cycle where you’ll feel a boost of energy! Many women experience feelings of creativity, motivation and increased social energy during this phase of their menstrual cycle. So, don't be surprised if you suddenly find yourself with the urge to tackle that work project or organize a fun night out with friends. Ovulation can be your secret weapon for productivity and socializing.

Feel-Good Vibes
Here's another fantastic perk of ovulation – it brings with it a wave of feel-good hormones, like higher levels of estrogen. This hormonal boost can lead to an improved mood and an overall sense of well-being. This built-in mood enhancer can make you feel more confident, positive, and ready to take on the world. Isn’t that something to celebrate?!
Let’s Party!
Being a woman is powerful, and your body should be celebrated. Your period is a key rite of passage and the physical and emotional changes that happen throughout your cycle is nothing short of magical.
Also, let’s not forget the fact that by celebrating our periods, we’re also helping to reduce the stigma and break down taboos. Talking about menstruation helps normalize these processes that every biological female will experience.
And finally, celebrating our cycle is a way to promote education. Based on our research, we know so many women are in the dark about their cycle so the more we talk, share and celebrate, the more we can understand our bodies and help each other feel less alone in our experiences.
So on that note, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and (as much as possible!) a Joyful Menstruation! We hope your holidays are filled with love, laughter and a newfound appreciation and understanding that every period is a reminder of new beginnings.
